Lesson of a life....Concluding part

Contd. from the last post.....
I went to one of the desk and started working on my stuff. After some time this dude comes and tells me " I did not want you to take a picture while I am working". I replied " Yes, I know and I am sorry about that, I already deleted that pic. And FYI you were nowhere in the picture". He listen and replies " But that isn't the reason I am telling you this". Then WHAT I shouted in a slightly rude voice.

He looks a bit surprised and tells me" The reason I gestured you to stop was because the chemicals in that room are sensitive to white light, and I had a bottle that was open. Since the flash of the camera was on it would have been bad for my experiments". As soon as I heard this I was dumbfounded for 2 reasons. First, I was annoyed at my stupidity, as I had been using that room for over 2 years and second, I was cursing my mind as to how quickly I made a judgement about that person. Without, knowing the facts or the actual situation my mind had drawn a conclusion.

This lead me to some introspection about my mind, and emotions. And how easily it is for each one of us to make judgements about people, their nature, behavior or in extreme cases character itself. Though some of you may say that - Good judgement comes from experience and experience comes form bad judgement. Agreed, but the catch here is - as long as we are aware that we have made an error and have the humility to rectify the thinking. Eventually, after observing the mind over a period of mind we see that there is no point in having prejudiced against people just because someone told something about them or you saw them in an awkward situation. As everything in the world changes with time. The key is to approach everything in life - people, situations, with an open and receptive mind.

Lesson of a life.....Part1

Fig. Inside view of a clean room.

Many a times even small events can teach a BIG lesson. Learning depends on the level of personal awareness, alertness, attitude and adaptability. I had an opportunity to apply this to my outlook.
For my research work I have to shuttle between Columbia U and Cornell on a regular basis. I work at the Nanofabrication Facility (one of the best in the U.S - for research purpose) at Cornell. Now for those of you who do not know what a nanofab lab is. In short all of the nano/micro fabrication is done in a clean room which is space with a special environment like controlled amount of particles in air, controlled humidity and temperature etc. Even the lighting in some rooms is different as there are chemical that are sensitive to white light, so we have esp. rooms (Yellow Rooms) within the clean room.

Coming to the point, a few months back I was at Cornell and working my a** off in the clean room, at one point I got so inundated with work that it was time to do something different. Incidentally, I had bought my camera in the facility, so I thought why not do some photography.

Fig. Me preparing to use chemicals (Note the fake smile - just for the camera..-:)).

Taking some pics here and there and getting myself clicked in different poses, I went outside one of the yellow rooms and started clicking. Apparently, there was a dude who was working in the room. As soon I clicked the picture, he looked at me and made gestures with his hand indicating to stop this photographic adventure. I was taken aback and though to myself come-on I am not even clicking your picture, you were nowhere in the pic. With sadness and dejection I left the spot and thought why this person is so ANAL, whats wrong with him, he must be a real - PISSY dude.

I went to one of the desk and started working on my stuff. After some time this dude comes and tells me......

What did he tell me, and what was my reaction and the lesson that came home ....will be concluded in the next post.

Advantages/Disadvantages of B.S (Bull Shit)

Once upon a time there was a bird who was BFF with a bull. It was a symbiotic relationship, where the bird took out ticks from the bull hair and in return the bull allowed the bird to sit on it. A time passed by the bird got old and fat. One day with dejection she said " If only I could once climb the top of that tree and marvel at the beauty of nature, I will be so happy. Gone are the days when I used to reach the top in minutes. Now my body is too old and fat to fly that far." The bull thought for a moment and replied " You can still do it, if you eat a little of my dung everyday for 2 weeks by the end I guarantee you will be able to reach the top of the tree". The bird was furious and with discernible anger she started arguing with the bull. Finally, the bull was able to persuade the bird to eat the shit for 2 weeks.

After 2 weeks the bird tries to fly to reach the top, and AHA!! it is able to fly high and high and reach the top. Once at the top, it is lost in the beauty of nature and gazes at the pulchritude of nature in absolute awe.

At some distance from the tree a farmer was relaxing in his old rock chair with some coffee and cake. Suddenly, he notices this big, fat bird sitting on top of the tree. He gets his shot gun and shoots the bird and it comes crashing on the

ground - DEAD.

Moral of the story is -- "Sometimes, even BULLSHIT can take you to the top, but it won't let you stay there for long".

Life = Prana --- Concluding Part

In the last post I wrote what is prana/life energy. Now I will briefly discuss the factors effecting life energy. Again this not just a theoretical or philosophical study rather an experiential discovery. After a careful experiment (on myself), broadly there are 3 things that have a profound effect on the life energy or in other words the state of our mind and body.

1. Food: The most important factor that affect our energy levels is the food we eat. After-all whatever we eat, majority of it becomes a part of us. A diet rich in whole grains, fruits and greens keeps the system light and the body active. Also avoiding non veg food is beneficial. A vegetarian diet is excellent but a moderated non veg intake (once - twice a month) is not an impediment. Similarly, processed foods, frozen stuff, junk food etc should be a big big NO.

2.Yoga/Breathing Exercises/Meditation
: This is a great way to unwind and bring the mind to its source which is joy and happiness. Yoga is not just extreme physical postures but is the synergy of physical, mental and spiritual dimensions of a persons life. Similarly, pranayama or breathing exercises are a great way of vacuuming the mind. And last but not the least meditation will help to conserve all the energy we build by yoga and pranayama and be centered and grounded. I have researched a lot about the various yoga/meditation programs in market and finally zeroed on the Art of Living Course. This program is holistic as it works on 7 layers of existence namely - body, breath, mind, intellect, memory, ego, soul/consciousness. So if you are mulling on the idea to meditate, take the course ASAP.....-:).

3. Outdoor Activity: It is always a nice idea to spend some time outdoors - taking a long walk, running, tossing a frisbee. I believe it is a nice break from our mundane routine, moreover it just freshens the mind. To increase employee creativity and effieciency some of the companies like Google, Thermo Fischer etc encourage outdoor activities (during office hours). And anyway is is always nice to have that rush of oxygen in the system.

So why don't out go ahead and try this out for 21 days and let me know how it feels...

LIFE = PRANA

LIFE IS a mystery, and the first mysterious thing about life is that you can be alive and you may not have life at all. We can go on living like dull, listless, lazy people or we can be alive, full of enthusiasm, smile, be happy and make other happy. Mysteries are to be lived not solved. How in the world can you solve a mystery. I do not understand why people try to relate everything with cause and effect and endlessly waste thier mental and emotional energy in finding a reason for everything. We need to change our WHYS to WOWS i.e. ? to !.

What separates one attitude from the other or why do some people are so vibrant and alive that just by seeing, chatting or being in their company we feel nice vis a vis others who are in toto opposite. So I decided to carry out a human experiment, where in the subject was myself. The conclusion of the experiment - ITS ALL ABOUT PRANA or in other words state of our mind is directly proportional to the amount of prana in the body i.e. higher prana leads to increased levels of happiness, awareness, focus and clarity. This is an experiential conclusion not some text book baloney. What is PRANA? See the image above it will explain everything.

What are the factors that affect the prana in the body and how to increase the levels of prana? I will conclude in the next post.....
